Chalice Vivienne #6
The Vessels Collection
Named for a jeweled cup,
this blending of exotica includes the following aromatics: Fig,
Frankincense and Labdanum.
Known first by the name
“Olibanum” it is perhaps now better known by the more common name
FRANKINCENSE. The rock resin of this tree was considered as precious
as gold. It was obtained by making a deep cut in the trunk and allowing
the sap to ooze slowly into the air where it will harden solid. It was
then collected and stored under guard such was its value. It would be most
sparingly used and its spicy aroma would fume the air on only the grandest
of occasion.
In Ancient Greece the athlete was held in the highest esteem. For the
elite of sport both training and diet were of paramount importance. The
common FIG was considered vital for contestants as its succulent
sweetness assured swiftness and strength. Such was its perceived power it
was against the law to export the fruit of the finest trees.
Found in the Castile region of Spain is the Rockrose, a small evergreen
bush. From its leaves and branches it exudes a resinous sticky wax that
has a strong sensual scent. Goats are herded through the bushes to feed
and later have this tar like resin carefully combed from their beards.
This rich aromatic is called LABDANUM, or by its other name Incense
of the Black Sun. |
